In looking for the Dragon I found it staring back at me

Many years ago I created a painting that I titled: In looking for the Dragon I found it staring back at me.

I wasn’t planning on selling that painting but someone who saw it really liked it and so I sold it. This is that image somewhat reimagined.

What is it about?

It represents the very idea of what every human is searching for, that need to look for something that seems to be calling from deep within us. The memory of our soul, our connection to that more spiritual aspect of our lives. For some people it is a calling that must be answered immediately, for others it might not be noticeable enough to change our path in life, but it is still there waiting to be stirred.

The paradox issue here is that the “Dragon” is already looking back at you, simply waiting for the shackles of the mind to fall away and show you what you are looking for.

What is the purpose of these blog posts?

Sometimes I find it useful to show an image that helps me to explain an idea. Many years ago when I was still looking to understand what the internal arts were, I came across some artwork that somehow stirred a bit of inspiration in me, like they were trying to tell me a secret that couldn’t really be said out loud.

Artist such as William Blake and the painting from Botticelli: Venus and Mars, as well as other ancient works of art from the Maya to ancient Buddhist, Hindu and Christian art, they all depict a truth that we seem to not remember. Maybe it’s a far fetched goal of mine, but I find it inspiring to think that my artwork can one day reach that level and flare up the spark of curiosity to start you on the search for that truth about who we truly are as human beings.
